The body control module (BCM) determines when the cruise controlcancel switch is activated. When the normally open cancel switch is closed, the BCM detects the predeterminedvoltage signal on the cruise control function switch circuit. The vehicle speed stored in the memory of theengine control module will be erased when the cruise control On/Off switch is turned OFF, or the ignitionswitch is turned OFF. The BCM sends a serial data message to the ECM in order to disengage the cruise controlsystem. When the Cruise Control System has been disengaged, the ECM sends a serial message to theinstrument panel cluster (IPC) in order to turn OFF the Cruise Engaged indicator.

If you turn on Adaptive Cruise Control and do not see the trailering icon in the DIC when you try to change your gap settings, your vehicle is not properly equipped to use Adaptive Cruise Control while trailering. You should not use Adaptive Cruise Control while trailering if this is the case.
Unfortunately, Chevrolet Equinox does not have the more sophisticated adaptive cruise control system. Chevy Equinox compact SUVs have had standard cruise control since 2006, with the 2005 base trim the only exception. No Chevy Trailblazer has the higher-spec adaptive cruise control.
